Victimization Of Transgender Patenders - 1671 Words
The United States and England are two of the most modernized countries in the world and share several similarities, one of which being that the justice systems of both countries play their role in the victimization of transgender inmates. Vicky Thompson was a transgender woman, who was sentenced to 12 months in an all male facility in Leeds, England. Within the third month of her sentence, Thompson committed suicide after her lawyer was unable to get the justice system to recognize Thompson as a woman (Kale, 2015). Furthermore, in the United Kingdom, transgender people are required to apply for a gender recognition certificate in order to have their legal gender, which is stated on their birth certificate, changed to the gender which theyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In the survey, I asked the participants a series of five questions; Is it okay with you if your tax dollars were paying for the sex reassignment surgery of a transgender inmate and if you answered yes, does the fact that the inmate is serving life in prison without parole affect your answer in any way? Should transgender inmates be assigned to prison facilities based on identified gender or their birth anatomy? Should transgender inmates specifically be segregated from the general prison population? Should transgender women that are housed in all male prison facilities, be provided with female-oriented items like nightgowns, scarves, and necklaces? Are you okay with transgender prisoners continuing their hormone replacement therapy under the prison health care system, and if you answered yes, does knowing what crime the inmate committed affect your answer in any way? The results were as follows: In terms of question one, 70% of the participants answered no and 30% answered ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠; however, four out of the six participants who answered ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠, quickly changed their answer when they were told that the inmate was serving life in prison without the possibility of parole. In terms of question two, 70% of participants believed that inmates should be housed based on their birth anatomy and 30% believed that transgender inmates should be housed based on the gender they identify with. Varieties of the Catalpa Tree North and South
The Catalpa trees name (Catalpa sp.) made it into English and Latin via Creek Indian tribal language describing the trees flower. Folks in the southern United States prefer to pronounce the tree catawba and that has survived as a common name along with cigar tree and Indian bean tree. Species History Catalpa was used by Native Americans in the American South as a poultice and purgative from leaves and bark. These medicinal properties were never developed but the tree was promoted to railroads as the perfect crosstie and planted on their rights-of-ways throughout the United States. That also flopped because of poor soil conditions near railroads, insects (catalpa worms) and disease (butt and heart rots). Trees naturalized from these plantations and are now nearly everywhere. Quarreling Catalpas There are actually two species in the United States and are hardy natives that tend to grow on one or the other side of the Mason-Dixon line, Northern Catalpa (Catalpa speciosa) and Southern Catalpa (Catalpa bignonioides). Still, there is a lot of overlap of these species but can be identified by some very different and unique characteristics. Northern Variety The Northern Catalpa is a larger tree with a thinner leaf and a longer point on its valentine shaped leaf. Catalpa speciosa grows much taller than Southern Catalpa and its panicle flowers are typically white. For massiveness, Northern Catalpa has the edge. Southern Variety The Southern Catalpa is a smaller tree with considerably more blossoms that are lavender or purple in color, probably more attractive than its northern cousin. Catalpa bignonioides is the preferred landscape tree. Actually Used As Fishà Bait Both trees are fish favorites. The catalpa caterpillar of the catalpa sphinx moth feeds on the catalpa leaf which will often defoliate the tree. Fishbait collectors visit these trees starting in mid-June and use this larva as prized fish bait. These defoliations generally do not harm the Catalpa.

Trend To Over Protecting Children Implications on their Development
Question: Discuss about the Trend to Over Protecting Childrenfor Implications on their Development. Answer: Introduction Childhood is the period that symbolizes fun, entertainment and living life to the fullest. Children are regarded as the form of God who is unaware of the complexities and worldly stuff. They are like the raw clay that can be transformed into a figure of choice. Their minds are open vessels that can be filled with various thought process. Their curiosity level is also high, that provide scope for leaning and development (Lereya, Samara, and Wolke, 2013, pp.1091-1108). Many scholars have put their efforts extensively to understand how a childs development can be made effective and if there is any particular way to define it, in the best possible way. It involves a wide range of activities that includes outdoor games, sports, etc. to involve children and this will help in their self-development and will also add to their learning process (Raboteg-Saric, and Sakic, 2014, pp.749-765). In the past few years, a lot of researchers have shown their interest in exploring this area to a great e xtent and also tried to build a connection or relationship over-protection of children and their overall development (Collins, Duncanson, and Burrows, 2014, pp.557-568). Conventionally, such relationships were not able to establish, and thus no appropriate ideas were available for the child development and over-protection. However, recently a well-structured model was formulated by the researchers to observe the impact of parental protection that is impacting the learning and development process of childhood (Donath, Graessel, Baier, Bleich, and Hillemacher, 2014, p.113). This model has shifted the traditional relationships of child care and took an effort to reform it into steps to make a better way of development of children. The emphasis of the modern philosophy was changed and tried to establish new concepts and principles. Traditionally, child development was carried out with a lot of emotional care and family involvement. However, with technological development, most of the at tentions of children are getting attracted towards digital games and indoor plays (Brown, and Iyengar, 2008, pp.14-38). According to my understanding, over-protection is affecting the overall growth and development of children. The current discussion will focus on some of the major reason that just justifies my viewpoint and would project some areas of development for parents as well. Over-Protecting Children/ Over-Protective Parenting Parents of the current generation are truly heading towards being more protective for their children. They deny them to go out and play; rather they insist them to be safe at home. This makes them confine to their own boundaries and limits their exposure. This might be the reason that many children are growing as an introvert who prefers to be comfortable within their peripheries (Donath, Graessel, Baier, Bleich, and Hillemacher, 2014, p.113). According to the parents point of view, the world today has become more selfish and each individual tries to get interested and profit of another. Children are the most innocent elements to be abused and mislead. For many, they can become a good source of income and for others can become a good means of entertainment. The increasing rate of crime associated with children has created havoc among the parents (Odenweller, Booth-Butterfield, and Weber, 2014, pp.407-425). They try to put their full attention towards their safety and protection. The term Overprotective Parenting or Overprotecting Children is of great confusion and challenging too because it represents various combinations and forms of styles and practices of parenting. According to Baumrinds parenting concepts, over-protectiveness of parents for their children could be related to permissiveness and authoritarianism. The same will be discussed in the subsequent sections. Overprotective parents can really affect the overall personality development of their children by limiting them to many exposures and incorporating a sense of fear and consciousness for everything (Lereya, Samara, and Wolke, 2013, pp.1094-1108). Basically, in such cases, the self-esteem of children gets highly affected. This results in limiting the children to take-up any kind of charge or risks in life, assuming that they are not yet prepared for it or not capable of handling it. Cases of those kinds will create fear in their minds, and that would lead to serious consequences in the future (Ode nweller, Booth-Butterfield, and Weber, 2014, pp.407-425). In many situations, the upbringings would define if the child will have a pleasant personality or will grow-up as stubborn adults. Baumrinds Parenting Styles Diana Blumberg Baumrind is a psychologist who is much interested in analyzing children development. Her research was primarily based on various ways and types of parents and their impact on the society. Baumrinds parenting concepts focus on the fact that over-protectiveness of parents for their children could be related to permissiveness and authoritarianism. Parenting style is fully dependable on the psychological level of parents and their capability of constructing various strategies and principles to grow up the children (Collins, Duncanson, and Burrows, 2014, pp.557-568). As, children go through different stages of life, the consciousness of parents also gets changed along with their perceptions of taking the things and the environment surrounding them. In the year 1960, Pillar theory was formulated by Baumrind that highlight the type of relationship that needs to be developed between parents and children. After conducting a lot of research and depth, she finalized three types o f parenting styles, Permissive These types of parents are liberal and are too soft for their children. They work for the wish and desires of the children and try to fulfill all the demands of their children (Lereya, Samara, and Wolke, 2013, pp.1093-1108). Authoritative This is the right type of parenting. They make attempts to control, shape and evaluate the attitudes and behavior of their children and accordingly, create standards of conduct for them. Children of this type of parenting grow you as responsible and values individuals (Mcmahon, and Ward, 2014, pp.407-425). They try to maintain a balance between the emotional, personal and social aspects. Authoritarian Such parents are too rigid for their children. Most of them try to follow traditional methods of parenting and impose their ideologies and perceptions on the children (Brown, and Iyengar, 2008, pp.14-38). Related Issues As discussed in the previous sections that over-protective parenting would lead to some of the major issues associated with the growth and development of children. Parenting practices include cultural values, inspirations and goals that need to be addressed together. Over-protection could impact the psychology of children as they might wonder what is going to happen. If something is happening, what is the logical justification behind it etc. (Collins, Duncanson, and Burrows, 2014, pp.557-568) Effective parenting would help in providing avenues for socialization, it adds to the physical health along with for psychological benefits. It helps in lowering the stress levels and avoids depression. It supports the improvement of the overall quality of life. A proper balance mental and physical activity was maintained by childhood; at the same time, it also allows an individual to focus better on his work or daily activities. Specifically, parental involvement had been seen as ways to rechar ge the mind and body, to remain effective and efficient at work (Donath, Graessel, Baier, Bleich, and Hillemacher, 2014, p.113). Overprotective parents can really affect the overall personality development of their children by limiting them to many exposures and incorporating a sense of fear and consciousness for everything. Basically, in such cases, self-esteem of children gets highly affected (Brown, and Iyengar, 2008, pp.14-38). This results in limiting the children to take-up any kind of charge or risks in life, assuming that they are not yet prepared for it or not capable of handling it. Cases of those kinds will create fear in their minds and that would lead to serious consequences in the future. In many situations, the upbringings would define if the child will have a pleasant personality or will grow-up as stubborn adults (Lereya, Samara, and Wolke, 2013, pp.1097-1108). All these have become a major concern for many parents across the globe. Areas of Improvement It is high time for people to get aware of the fact that restriction would not help in adding value to the type of upbringings they want to give to their children. Rather, there is a need of critical thinking and effective decision making. Parents who are over-conscious of their kids should encourage them to take up risk in life. This is because; it will help them to face the realities of the world. It would also help in making them capable of facing challenges independently. A second area of improvement for the overprotective parents is that they should allow their child to do their homework or any kind of activities of their own (Thornton, 2014, pp.90-100). This will help in developing their self-dependent nature and they will learn not to depend on others. It will also help in earning respect and fame in the society or even within the family. A third area of improvement includes taking steps to make them understand the value and significance of self-esteem and how it will help in leading a better life in the future. They should also train them about their safety and self-protection. Conventionally, such relationships were not able to establish and thus no appropriate ideas were available for the child development and over-protection (Lereya, Samara, and Wolke, 2013, pp.1099-1108). However, recently a well-structured model was formulated by the researchers to observe the impact of parental protection that is impacting the learning and development process of childhood. This model has shifted the traditional relationships of child care and took an effort to reform it into steps to make a better way of development of children. Conclusion From the above discussion, it was clear that over-protective parents will definitely affect the overall self-development of the children (Brown, and Iyengar, 2008, pp.14-38). Many articles and research also supports this argument. However, this debate is still difficult to clear as different people hold different types of perceptions. Some parents argue that they are over-protective because they do not want their children should face the issues and challenges they have gone through once. Others give the reason that their children do not have the age now to struggle. For that lot of time is there and gradually they will learn how to face things. The current discussion tried to focus on some of the major reason that just justify my viewpoint and would project some areas of development for parents as well. It also projected the theories and assumptions of parenting. Children go through different stages of life, consciousness of parents also gets changed along with their perceptions of taking the things and the environment surrounding them. Hope this was enough to justifies the current statement "The trend to over-protecting children is having serious implications on their development" and I strongly believe on the same.
